I was so excited to explore the Colosseum, that I could barely make it through my breakfast. I mean, it's so old and iconic.. I could just hardly contain myself. Husband and I enjoyed a quick cappuccino and croissant (you guys, Italian breakfast is the best) and then headed out for our adventure. It was so grand. Even more so than I had imagined. As I walked through the ruins and read about the history that took place here, my excitement waned and was replaced with great emotion. Yes, the Colosseum is impressive but its history is brutal. I left with a heavy heart, as I felt the weight of what we had just experienced, walking through the very place where death was entertainment and where so many suffered as a result. Even though our time here was far different than I had imagined it to be, I think it was exactly what it's supposed to be.
