the best day ever

31 December 2012

our last conversation before she boarded the plane. basically, we're excited to see each other. and yes, that is me in bed without make up and with my retainer. just keeping it real.
As you read this, David and I are already on our way to pick Kelley and Rion up from the airport. Or we've already picked them up, it kind of depends on what time zone you're in. This whole thing is incredibly surreal and I truly have my husband to thank for it all.

As you probably know, my birthday was several weeks ago. Well, David told me that there wouldn't really be any gifts because there was a really big surprise coming. He wouldn't hint as to what is was, when it would be, or why. Absolutely nothing. And honestly, this was completely okay because I'm rarely surprised (somehow I almost always find out) and it was exciting.

Well, one evening just several days ago, David, a friend who will remain anonymous (because they're a little embarrassed and I wouldn't want to further this via the internet), and I were sitting on our couch and talking about what to do for dinner. I mentioned our favorite restaurant and the friend said, "It sounds awesome, but let's wait for Kelley and Rion to get here so that we can all go together." There was a very long and awkward silence. They tried to recover, but it was just so not happening. And then, David turned to me and said, "Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas!" And then the surprise that was kept secret for months (I'm so impressed, you guys!) was no longer a surprise.

Regardless, it is one of the most thoughtful and incredible gifts I've ever received. To show my best friend this life that we've started here in Zurich is going to be ever so special and truly meaningful for me. Thank you, sweet husband, for this incredible gift. My guesses didn't even come close because it's beyond what I could have ever hoped for or imagined. You're amazing.

P.S. I'm taking a short blogging break to spend some quality time with my friend, but I'll be back for Ladies of the Mountains in just a few short days and then back here as usual after January 13th!
