the stocking made for me by david's grandmother. such a treasure. |
David and I have noticed that we get most homesick when we feel like we should be doing something and we're not. So, we were really intentional about planning Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to avoid that getting sad while you just twiddle your thumbs moment. We were sure to include some cherished family traditions, create a few of our very own, and truly relish in every second of both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
I think my favorite new tradition is going on a picnic Christmas afternoon during which we sipped gluhwein (recipe coming soon!), kept our hands warm over a toasty fire, and played with our sweet Sadie. David's favorite was gifting each other pajamas on Christmas Eve and then wearing them to open gifts on Christmas morning (not necessarily a new concept but new for us). The holidays were filled with a lot of joy and for that I'm so thankful. What a beautiful way to bring 2012 to an end. Here's to what this next year has in store for us!
