Sitting on the edge of a 2,244 foot cliff

02 November 2012

After touring quite a few cities, David and I realized that the time had come to adjust how we plan our travels. While we can appreciate an incredible church or a beautiful park, eventually these things start to blend together or even look the same if we don't break them up with time outside of the city. So, on our trip to Scandinavia we made sure to plan on chasing the Northern Lights (which you can read all about over here) and hiking to Pulpit Rock.

I had seen pictures of the rock, but I thought that surely this cliff wasn't as treacherous as the pictures led me to believe. I mean.. if it was, then there would be boundaries in place or words of caution somewhere. So, while I wasn't really sure what the rock would be like, I did know that I could at least expect a lovely hike and beautiful views. Those things were all I really wanted anyway.

Well, to say that my expectations were met would be quite the understatement. What you see in those pictures up there is exactly what Pulpit Rock looks like. A 2,244 foot cliff completely exposed and might I add, pretty dang scary to step out onto. That feeling of sitting on the edge was like nothing I've ever experienced before (although it does remind me a little bit of what I experienced here). I was fearful. I was humbled. I was in awe. I was living.

P.S. There are only seven more days left on our adventure and I've decided to spend them completely unplugged. So, see you friends on the 9th!
